Hello, World!

I think today is the day. After working on this project for months, I think things are finally in place to be able to share the project with my friends, on Facebook, and everywhere else. In order to get to this point, I have navigated an interesting maze of necessary admin items like: getting a PO Box and phone number; set up the GoFundMe page for donations; set up new domain and configured related email; set up with MailChimp so people who want to get updates can stay in touch via email; ordered business cards; and so much more! It was often surprising how inter-related everything was and where I ran into roadblocks.

While most of that is rather mundane administrative stuff, perhaps the highlight of the past several weeks was part of the process of getting approved as an Organizer through Human Library Organization in Denmark. My application had gone astray due to technology issues, so the founder, Ronni Abergel, got involved to help it get processed promptly. That led to a 90-minute call between us discussing the Human Library! It is not every day you join an international organization and get to speak directly to the founder!

I am excited and honored to be able to bring this idea to our metropolitan area. I believe a Human Library has the potential to make a significant difference in our communities over time by fostering a better understanding of each other. My hope is this initial event will be just that – the first of many. If there is sufficient interest, we will found a non-profit organization and go about building the necessary elements to have on-going Human Library events all over the Twin Cities area. Meanwhile, stay tuned as we progress towards the first event, planned for April 2017.
